Meet Ben & Myra
Hi! We’re Ben & Myra, the couple behind Bakes & Cakes.
What began as something small in our home kitchen slowly grew into something we truly care about sharing with others. We bake and decorate the cakes together, experimenting with flavours, textures, and designs — turning every bake into a little adventure in the kitchen.
Before starting Bakes & Cakes, we spent a long time trying different cakes across Toronto but never quite found one we loved eating. They often looked beautiful, yet were very sweet and heavy, and after a few bites it was hard to finish a slice. We kept wishing for a cake people could comfortably sit down, share, and genuinely enjoy together.
A Different Kind of Cake
Growing up around Vietnamese and Asian-style desserts, we were used to flavours that felt lighter and more balanced. We realized many friends and family felt the same — they wanted a cake that still felt special and elegant, but not overwhelming in sweetness.
That idea became the foundation of Bakes & Cakes.
From Curiosity to Craft
We began our baking journey in 2020, right in the middle of the COVID lockdowns, when extra time at home sparked a curiosity to try something new. Our first experiments were with Vietnamese Salted Egg Cakes, and after receiving plenty of positive feedback from friends and family, we started baking regularly.
What started as simple practice bakes for family and friends quickly grew as more people noticed the lighter texture and balanced taste.
A year later, we expanded into chiffon cakes. Through countless trials, new flavors, and creative designs, our customer base grew steadily. After years of refining and perfecting our craft, we’ve developed a recipe that strikes just the right balance of softness, gentle sweetness, and a delicate, memorable taste.
Today
Today, every cake is made fresh to order with patience and attention to detail. Our goal has never been only to create cakes that look nice in photos — we want cakes people genuinely look forward to eating and remembering during their celebrations.
Whether it’s a birthday, gathering, or milestone, we hope each cake feels thoughtful, comforting, and worth sharing around the table.
Looking Ahead
We currently operate online, but our dream is to one day open a storefront where customers can walk in, relax, and enjoy a slice together. Bakes & Cakes is a small family business, and every order means a great deal to us.
